- USR Tech Support responded with a suggestion for staying connected with
- some Hayes modems (response was exactly 2 weeks from my e-mail query).
-
- So far, I have only tried it with a Hayes Accura 28.8 V.FC at the other
- end. It seems to work! I stayed connected for more than 30 minutes,
- including a transfer of an 800K file both ways (as a test). The connect
- rate was 26400 (V42BIS, LAPM according to an ATI6 done afterward). I did
- have about 6 Blers during that time and a bunch(?) of Link NAKS, but the
- connection and response seemed fine.
-
- My Sportster is a 33600 (9/19/95 ROM date), so the S-Register settings
- may not work for the older ROM dates.
-
- The "fix" was to add S27=42 and S54=96 to the initialization string.
-
- Prior to this, I had to lower the maximum connect rate to 14400 in order
- to stay connected (added &N8 and &U3 to the initialization string).
-
- If the apparent success of the S27=42 and S54=96 fix is an illusion
- (perhaps the phone lines are especially quiet today), I will post that
- information too.
-
- Hope this helps some other Sportster (33600) owners.
